HD Radio: How It Works

By broadcasting digitally over traditional radio waves, a single frequency is now capable of delivering up to four stations of content in crystal clear sound. All you do is tune in to your favorite station and your HD Radio receiver will automatically lock in to the HD1 signal for that station. One notch over on the dial and you’re listening to entirely new content on the HD2 station. Additionally the digital signal provides on-screen information such as: album art, song info, traffic and weather.

  • Digital Sound – HD Radio stations broadcast in clear digital quality to your local area making static, radio hiss and fuzz a thing of the past. Hear the difference of digital sound using the samples to the right.
  • Artist Information – HD Radio technology enables receivers to display song titles, album art, and station information so you get the true Artist Experience® with Program Info.
  • Real-Time Updates – The data network allows HD Radio to broadcast Digital Traffic and Instant Info including everything from changing weather conditions to the latest sports scores and emergency messages.

It’s time for a smarter radio. HD Radio devices receive a digital signal over traditional radio waves and require no Internet connection or monthly fee.
