How to Give a Remote Starter as a Gift

How to Give a Remote Starter as a Gift

Thinking of gifting someone a remote car starter this year for the Holidays? (We think that’s a great idea by the way!) But not sure how to get their car, bring it here, and have it installed? Don’t worry, we can help you easily gift a remote starter.

Shopping for a Remote Starter

First, you’ll need to pick out which remote car starter system you want to gift. Here are the things you’ll need to consider when shopping:

  • Where do they park their car normally? If they typically park close to their house or work you might only need to get them a one-way remote start. If they park further away, like a large parking lot, they may benefit from a two-way remote starter with further operating range.
  • Do they want/need extra features like trunk release or rear defrost? Adding those extra conveniences sometimes really makes a difference between a good gift and a great gift! (*Not compatible on all vehicles).
  • Will a simple starter meet their needs or do they need full control of their vehicle? We offer simple one button systems to start, lock and unlock. We also have systems that come with LCD/LED remotes so they’ll have access to manage all their car’s alerts. Or, you can give them the ultimate in vehicle control with DroneMobile, letting them control their vehicle from a smartphone app.
  • Take a look at our selection on our website: HERE

Not sure where to start or what they might need? We can walk you through all these decisions and help you pick out the best remote car starter for everyone on your list.

Technical Stuff We Need to Know

You might think it’s as easy as just picking one out but there are a few technical things we’ll need to know about their vehicle too. With this information, we’ll be able to ensure a smooth installation of the remote start system you pick out for their gift.

  • What is the year, make, and model of their vehicle?
  • Is their car a push to start or a key start?
  • Do they drive a standard or manual transmission?

Once we have this information we’ll be able to guide you on exactly the right remote start system for their vehicle.

How to (Actually) Give the Remote Starter as a Gift

Now, you might be wondering (or worried) about how you’ll actually give the gift to them, or how to get it installed in their vehicle. Good news is you can definitely put a remote start under the tree and there’s no need to bring us their vehicle beforehand. You have a few options for giving the gift:

  • Once you pick out and purchase the remote start system, we’ll simply give you the box with the remote start and parts (so they’ll have something to open!). Plus, we’ll give you a certificate to put with it that explains it includes installation and how they can reach out to us directly to schedule the installation.

  • If you couldn’t pick one out or maybe couldn’t give us all the technical information we needed, we can give you a rough estimate and you can purchase a gift card in that amount for them to use and pick out their own system.

We make giving the gift of a warm and toasty car extremely easy and we’re here to help you make holiday wishes come true! Visit one of our stores or contact us today to start shopping for everyone on your list.

Remote Start Categories

Different Remote Start Categories

Remote car starters come as many remote variations, some with multiple functions and features, but all remote starts fall within 1 of 3 categories; 1-Way, 2-Way, and SmartPhone Control.

Below, we’ll explain the difference and benefits of the remote start categories so you can easily choose with option is best for you.

1-way refers to communication that only goes one way from the remote transmitter to your vehicle. This means you can send commands from the remote one way, but you won’t receive any confirmation commands or communication back on the remote.

Lots of entry level remote starts are 1-way systems and work from around 1500 – 3000 feet away from the vehicle. You’ll know your vehicle has received the command to start because the lights will flash to alert you. These systems work best if you plan on using your remote starter close by the vehicle or when the vehicle is within sight, so you’ll know if it remote started or not.

2-way also refers to the communication between the remote and your vehicle, but this option goes both ways. It’s called 2-way because the remote communicates with the vehicle and the vehicle communicates back.

The primary advantage of a 2-way system is you’ll always know if the command you sent to start the vehicle was received or not. You might wonder why that’s important but imagine thinking you’ve started your car on a snowy day only to find out 20 minutes later that it didn’t start. (uh oh!)

2-way remote start systems are ideal for those who’s vehicles are not always within sight. If you can’t see the lights on your vehicle flash to confirm it’s been started, then the alert on the remote will confirm it. This is especially handy if you park in a parking garage, or if your vehicle is parked in the back of the grocery store lot, and not right where you can always see it.

SmartPhone Control

Forget only 1 or 2 ways of communication, get full connectivity to your vehicle through your smartphone with DroneMobile. Drone adds LTE connectivity to your vehicle, giving you fast and reliable access from an app on your phone. It’s a universal remote start solution that can be added to over 95% of vehicles on the road.

  • Control Your Car – Lock, Unlock, and remote start your car all through the user-friendly app.
  • Track Your Car – Monitor your car’s location, speed and status.
  • Check Your Car – Do everything from check your door locks to set a maintenance reminder for your car’s next service.
  • Secure Your Car – Anytime your alarm is triggered, you’ll receive a push notification, even if your car’s parked across town.
  • Unlimited Range – Use your app to access your vehicle from virtually anywhere, as long as you have cell phone service.

Better Sound Without Replacing Factory Radio

Upgrade Your Sound Without Replacing Your Factory Radio

Better Sound Without Replacing Factory Radio

Maybe you love your factory radio, it’s got everything you could want, you know how to use it, and you just don’t want to give it up. Or maybe your vehicle’s dash design makes it impossible or hard to fit an aftermarket radio. That’s ok sometimes, you don’t always have to replace your factory radio to get improved sound.

Let us help you get better sound quality out of your OEM system, without replacing your factory radio with some of the options below.

Replace Your Speakers

Better Sound Without Replacing Factory RadioOne of the first things you can do is replace the factory speakers in your vehicle with aftermarket ones. Factory speakers are mediocre at best and is typically where a factory system suffers most. Upgraded speakers provide better sound quality, smoother frequency response, extended bandwidth, and increased power handling and volume. Plus, they’re built with higher quality materials which means they’ll last longer, giving you a better product for your money.

Add An Amplifier

Another step you can take is adding an amplifier to your factory system. If your factory system came with an amp, it was meant to power your factory speakers, not the new aftermarket ones you just added. You typically won’t want to add an aftermarket amp to factory speakers though, since factory speakers generally can’t handle the higher wattage they’d get from an aftermarket amp.

Adding an aftermarket amp can provide better sound quality and increased volume with higher wattage ratings to properly power your speakers and provides a cleaner output signal to your new speakers.

Add A Subwoofer

Better Sound Without Replacing Factory RadioAn aftermarket subwoofer produces much lower frequencies than any speaker in your vehicle can reproduce. The addition of these lower frequencies can really round out the sound you’re getting from your ride. A quality subwoofer will also add depth and realism to your music that your factory system was just missing.

CarPlay Interfaces

Factory radio didn’t come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and you can’t replace the radio? Your best option might be adding an interface that integrates the latest technology to your factory system. This allows you to use select smartphone features directly from your vehicle’s controls.

Sound Processor & Tuning

Better Sound Without Replacing Factory RadioIn our opinion, this is the most essential addition in upgrading your factory sound. Digital signal processors (DSP) allow us to get you the best sound that your vehicle can produce. With a DSP we’re able to manipulate the signal, adjust equalization, assign certain frequencies to certain speakers through crossovers, adjust time alignment or delay – so that your music sounds centered even when you’re not sitting centered. With a DSP we’ll be able to overcome various factory acoustic flaws and tailor the sound to your liking. Adding a DSP is basically the equivalent of changing your radio without actually changing your radio and gives you way more control over the sound than before.

Next Steps

Don’t know where to start? We can help! Stop by one of our stores with your vehicle, we’ll take a listen to your current set up and discuss options on improving your sound while maintaining your factory radio. We can walk you through the options that will meet your needs and your budget so you can feel confident you’re getting the best solution for you.

Life with a factory radio doesn’t have to sound bad, we can help you find options to add performance and functionality to your system. So, if you’re forced to keep your factory radio or simply don’t want to get rid of it, there are options out there for you!
