Perhaps you don’t think you need mobile video in your vehicle, but long roadtrips go more smoothly with a backseat entertainment system for the kids! There are a few options when it comes to adding mobile video, it can be a straightforward upgrade or even a customized install.
Drop Down Video Monitors – probably the easiest way to add entertainment to your vehicle. A monitor with a built in DVD player is installed in the ceiling of the vehicle. These come in a few select colors and typically between 8 and 10” screens.
Replacement Headrest Monitors – Just like it sounds, replace your current headrests with ones that have built in monitors and DVD players. With headrests, you have the options of having one shared DVD player or two separate ones, in case your backseat passengers can’t agree on what to watch. These come in a few select colors and typically 7 or 8” screens, with HDMI input available as well.
Custom Factory Interior Match Headrest Monitors – Go with this option if you want to keep the exact factory look, color, and feel of your vehicle’s interior while adding video. Like the above, these are replacement headrests, but are exact factory color matched for your vehicle. These have 7 or 8” screens, option of one or two DVD players, with HDMI input available as well.
Headphones – The easiest way for your backseat passengers to listen to their movie or show. They’ll be able to beat the road noise, or other passenger chatter by being fully immersed in their video’s sound. (Plus – it’s one less distraction for the Driver! You can still listen to your music, or carry on your own conversation while the kids stay happy.)
Some may argue that just adding an iPad or tablet holder in a vehicle is an easier andless invasive way to get mobile video, but we don’t recommend that. An installed system is always there, available, and ready to use, while an iPad or tablet would need charged, or even connected to WiFi, which isn’t always available. An installed system is also made to be part of and left in a vehicle, where there can be dangers associated with leaving a table sitting in a car during extreme weather. Keep in mind too, that one tablet might not be able to entertain more than one child.
